INSTRUCTIONS FOR LEARNING:

This self-paced online course consists of multiple modules designed to guide clinicians through a comprehensive career transition process. The format includes video presentations, written content, downloadable worksheets and templates, and structured reflection exercises. Learners progress through modules covering decision-making frameworks, professional branding, networking strategies, résumé positioning, interview preparation, compensation negotiation, and transition planning. Additional resources include career planning worksheets, résumé templates, negotiation guides, and transition checklists. To claim credits, learners must engage with all course content and complete the post-activity evaluation survey, which includes reflective questions on intended performance changes. Throughout this course, learners will develop the strategic frameworks and practical skills needed to successfully transition from bedside clinical roles into non-clinical and industry positions while maintaining professional integrity and career sustainability.

STATEMENT OF NEED:

There is a growing national trend of clinician burnout, workforce attrition, and interest in alternative career pathways outside of direct patient care. Many clinicians report limited formal training in business literacy, career navigation, professional branding, negotiation,

and transition planning. As a result, clinicians often make uninformed career decisions, accept suboptimal compensation, or struggle to successfully translate their clinical expertise into industry roles. This educational activity addresses critical practice gaps by providing structured frameworks for evaluating career fit and ethical decision-making, teaching learners how to articulate clinical expertise in terms of measurable organizational value, developing practical skills in networking strategy and compensation evaluation, and promoting proactive transition planning to support professionalism, continuity of care, and responsible workforce mobility.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

After participating in this activity, learners will be able to:

1. Apply structured decision frameworks to evaluate ethical and strategic career transitions

2. Translate clinical experience into measurable business and operational value for non-clinical employers

3. Implement effective job search, networking, résumé positioning, and interview strategies tailored to industry roles

4. Evaluate total compensation packages holistically, negotiate professionally, and execute successful resignation and onboarding processes

TARGET AUDIENCE:

This activity is suitable for Physicians, Nurses, Pharmacists, Physician Assistants, Social Workers, Psychologists, Dietitians, Dentists, Athletic Trainers, and other healthcare professionals.

This course is specifically designed for registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physicians, pharmacists, and allied health professionals seeking non-clinical or hybrid roles in leadership, industry, consulting, education, informatics, research, or healthcare business. The content is most relevant for early-career to mid-career clinicians experiencing burnout, role dissatisfaction, or seeking professional growth beyond direct patient care, as well as those interested in career sustainability, leadership development, and diversified career pathways.
